Mikeysline’s Confidentiality Promise to You
Confidentiality means not telling anyone the things you’ve told us. It means you can trust that we’ll keep it private. Only sometimes, if we are really worried about you or someone else’s safety, will we need to tell someone. This is to keep you safe and ensure you get the additional support you need.
Keeping You Safe
Keeping what you say confidential is really important to us, and we’ll only consider telling other people if we have to. If we think we might need to tell someone, we’ll try to talk to you about it first. Keeping you safe also does mean having some personal details from you, including your home address, contact number, date of birth and next of kin details. These are confidential and will only be shared for the reasons and circumstances outlined below.
Mikeysline Is A Safe Place To Talk
We want to assure you that you are safe to talk to our workers/volunteers. They are there to help support you.
- Support workers will write some notes about what you tell them. They save these notes in a central file at Mikeysline. This is to ensure that other staff/volunteers within Mikeysline know what has already been discussed, so you don’t have to go through it again and will be able to support you when you contact us as our staff/volunteers work different shifts and you may speak to a different member of our team the next time you contact us.
- Your notes stay safe within Mikeysline and are stored securely.
- There may be times when we are worried about your or someone else’s safety and we need to tell someone about what’s happening. If this is the case, we might use your phone number to contact you. If we don’t have your number/address, and if we feel it is an emergency we work with the police to find out where you are. We’d always try to talk to you first, before we pass this information on and this is why it’s so important that we obtain this information from you.
Circumstances Where We Might Need To Tell Someone
- You ask us to
- We believe your life or someone else’s life is in danger
- You’re being hurt by someone in a position of trust who could possibly hurt other young people
- You tell us about another child/young person who’s being hurt and is not able to tell someone or understand what is happening to them
- We’re told we have to by law, for example, for a court case.
Who We Might Contact and What Could Happen
- Your details are only passed to people who are able to get help to you, like the ambulance service.
- We may ask the police to come and check or do something to make sure that you’re safe. For example, if you’ve run away and are lost by yourself, we may need to ask the police for help.
- We might tell social services to arrange to speak to you and see how they can help you. They would want to protect you and other young people.
Please ask us if you are unsure about anything above or you are unsure about your confidentiality, so we can hear your concerns and talk them through with you.
