Prevention & Anti Stigma Work

Speak Up! Silence Judgement

It is a sad and tragic fact that so many people feel unable to speak out and access support when they need it as they fear judgement or that their feelings, however painful and intense for them, will just be dismissed by others. As a result, many suffer in silence.

At Mikeysline we feel passionate about breaking down that stigma and highlighting the importance of people being able to access support when they need it. Our promotional campaigns are one of the ways we do this to help people speak up and not feel ashamed about coping with mental health issues.

We are currently working on a series of podcasts (in association with Adventurous Audio Ltd)  “Speaking of Suicide”  which highlight the implications on the individual and the people close to them when the support so desprately needed is not accessed at the right time. You can find our podcasts here

 Here for You

Most people reach out at least once before attempting suicide, many at an earlier stage before their feelings spiral to the point where they are considering suicide as an option. It is therefore essential that there is a greater awareness of the impact that emotional distress and mental health issues can have as risk factors for suicide and how all of us can support the role that Mikeysline plays in providing non-judgmental support regardless of the issue being raised.

We know if you come to us that the issue is important to you, therefore it is important to us that you receive the right level of support when you need it.

 Direct Support

Much of our work involves direct support, providing a non-judgemental listening ear, advising, supporting and signposting on to other services for additional support when necessary. Where it will benefit the individual, we also do 1:1 skills-based work to help people with coping strategies.

In addition to this direct support, however, we also invest a lot of our time in our anti-stigma work, trying to break down the stigma and barriers that prevent people from speaking out when they need to and getting the support at the right times. We raise awareness about Mikeysline, mental health and suicide in a number of ways.
